Sometimes songs are simple, short ideas that easily make sense together, and somewhat predictably repeat themselves. Some songs are not like this at all. Some have multiple movements, even in short periods of time, they change keys, they change tempos, they change writers even. It sometimes feels like there are little (or big) songs within the song. Here are some examples that I like:
A Day In The Life – The Beatles
Up In Arms – Foo Fighters
Band On the Run – Paul McCartney & Wings
No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature – The Guess Who
Those Thieving Birds (Part 1)/Strange Behaviour/Those Thieving Birds (Part 2) – Silverchair
Bones – Saves The Day
One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Rude Mood/Hide Away (Live) – Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble
American Eulogy (Mass Hysteria/Modern World) – Green Day
Step It Out Mary / The Hunter’s Purse – Scatter The Mud
Black Wave/Bad Vibrations – Arcade Fire
